Position Summary

The Senior Accountant oversees the daily accounting operations for the Property & Casualty insurance entity, ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting under STAT, GAAP, and all regulatory standards. This role plays a key part in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, as well as ongoing financial analysis and reporting.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to produce timely, accurate financial statements.
  • Ensure adherence to NAIC statutory accounting principles and state insurance regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of in-house payroll, including multi-state reporting compliance.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, bank reconciliations, and monthly supporting schedules.
  • Complete statutory filings such as Quarterly and Annual Statements.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain strong internal controls related to financial reporting.
  • Coordinate and support external audits, regulatory examinations, and internal compliance reviews.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Oversee and enhance accounting systems, including the general ledger, sub-ledgers, and insurance platforms.
  • Participate in or lead system upgrades, implementations, and integrations.
  • Create, update, and enforce accounting policies and procedure documentation.

Analysis & Business Support

  • Provide financial analysis, variance explanations, and insights to management.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and other strategic financial initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or MBA (required).
  • CPA license or CPA eligibility (preferred).
  • Full bilingual (Spanish) proficiency required.

Experience

  • 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong background in Property & Casualty insurance accounting (preferred).
  • Prior supervisory or management experience (required).
  • Experience with STAT reporting and NAIC regulatory filings.
  • Background in audits or regulatory examinations.
  • Knowledge of multi-state insurance requirements (a plus).
  • Reinsurance accounting experience (a plus).
